Hello mate,
The last article which you just commented is the discussion of a TV program in Taiwan. The program, which is originated from a novel called 'White Tower', is about doctors' life in a hospital. The 'white tower' really implies the most outstanding hospital in Taiwan. (The funny thing is that the author was a doctor in the 'white tower', so the theme is very likely based on real stories.)
Since you're not able to read the book or saw the program, I won't talk too much. The thing I wanna arise is that in the book, there are three doctors in the surgery section. One is called 'Su' who is some sort of young doctor; one is called 'Huang' who is the head of the surgery section, very senior, of course; another is called 'Chio' who is the vice head of the section. Su and Huang have different opinions of a surgery. The patient is the president's lovely daughter so that the surgery is not just a surgery, but more about politics (not the politics in general sense, but the politics in the hospital), and they have a serious argument about that. In the end, they fall out, and Huang gives Su a very hard time. It turns out that Su cannot put his surgeries into the schedule because the schedule has to be proved by the Head, which is Huang, and then a patient of Su's is in danger. In one day, Su meets Chio in a changing room. Chio asks Su: Would you go apologise? Su replies NO, and then they have an argument. At last, Chio says something interesting: If your apology could give your patient a chance of being better, why wouldn't you just do it !?
I ask myself, if I were Su, what would I do? Apology might be able to solve the difficulty, but it indicates that you agree his value that your own benefit is superior than your patient's. If you believe this, why would you go apologise to help your patients ?! On the other hand, your patient probably would die because you wouldn't apologise. This violates your value. The situation is a dilemma. Although going apologise is like personality destruction for me, I think I would do it, because I couldn't stand with being alive by sacrificing other people. I ask the same question to Sally, and she said she would go apologise. Becase going apologise doesn't mean you agree his value. ...I understand, but it's very very difficult to me. Because I think the words you spoke out really mean something... I really envy Sally who can speak one thing but believe in different. If I could, I would tell my ex-girlfriend that 'Oh~ Baby~ You are definitely much more important than doing research'.
What would you do, infrared?

First of all thanks alot for translating your
post.
Now to what you ask: In my opinion in the
bottom line what is important is what
makes you happy and comfortable with
yourself.
In the doctor's case, political point of
views are important for each person but
when it comes to a person's life I think its
more important. He could have
apologized to save his patient's life, this
doesn't mean that he stopped believing
in his ideas, but unfortunately in the real
world we need to make sacrifices (or
choices, it depends how you name it).
Now in the second part of your post, I
didn't really get what you mean with the
ex-girlfriend thing, I am coming by from
your office and comment later.
By the way White Tower is the name of the
trademark building of my hometown
THESSALONIKI.
I ain't still quite clear what you would do... I know you wanna be objective. I won't be
surprised if you said you choose to sacrifrice the patient. It is human nature. Sacrificing other
people to get our own happiness is an easier way to survive in the world.
PS1. Buddy, I ain't pusing you. Just wanna remind you that you promised me to organise a
bachelor party for me, which I've been waiting. At moment I am fucking bored & need some
stimulation from... bunny girls, for instance.
PS2. If darkness is the only thing you can see through your infrared telescope, why don't you
just turn your telescope to your neighbors?! You might get some amazing shots...XD
